Katy Perry vows to take a break after difficult year
She’s one of the busiest stars in the world, so it’s no wonder Katy Perry feels she could do with a well-earned break.
The 27-year-old singer admitted she is so exhausted after the past few years of globe-trotting and promoting her records that she is in desperate need of a “f***ing vacation”.
Accepting the coveted Artist of the Year prize at last week’s 2012 NARM Ceremony, Katy said: “I swear after this song, I'm taking a f***ing vacation."
The star also reflected on deciding to pursue a career in the music business the first time she heard legendary Queen record ‘Killer Queen’ as a teenager.
Katy, whose parents are Christian pastors, explained: "I wasn't allowed to listen to secular music, so every time I would go over to my friend’s house I would make them turn on MTV real quick. And one of my friends… one day pulled out a record, a song in particular called ‘Killer Queen’ by Queen.
"I remember hearing that song and - I don't know if you have that moment in your memory because you work in the music industry – there was that one song that hit you like a shockwave and I remember falling down in what felt like slow motion in my bed listening to the lyrics of ‘Killer Queen’.
"And I thought to myself, ‘Oh my gosh, this music is incredible. These lyrics speak to me,' and that's what really made me want to be who I am today."
Katy’s racy choice of outfit marked a departure from her usual style, with the star channelling a gothic look in a transparent panelled gown, paired with a rosary bead necklace, black tipped nails, smoky eyes, studded black leather shoes by Christian Louboutin and her now trademark purple locks.
Meanwhile, Katy’s estranged husband Russell Brand, 36 – who filed for divorce in December 2011 after just 14 months of marriage – has now stopped following the ‘Teenage Dream’ singer on Twitter.
While Katy had stopped subscribing to the comedian’s status updates some four months ago, Russell is believed to have shed his former spouse from his list some time last week.
This comes after Katy was spotted cuddling up to Florence & the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd at Coachella Festival last month.
