She’s enjoyed a musical renaissance thanks to seventh studio album ‘Femme Fatale’ – but as Britney Spears supports the record with a sold-out world tour, her reinvigorated image has provided as many talking points as her pumped up new sound.
Indeed, the bleached blonde highlights and exposed roots are a thing of the past for the 29-year old singer – who played up to the latest craze for voluminous Sarah Jessica Parker inspired waves during a recent show in New York City.
Also gone is the pasty, washed out look of old; with the help of tour hairstylist and make-up artist Marco Berardini, Britney has been radiating a healthy glow as she works her way through 78-dates across North and South America, Canada, Asia and Europe.
“I’m like the energizer bunny back there!” he told Allure. “I use Make Up For Ever HD MicroFinish powder to control shine on her face and touch up her hair with Bumble and Bumble dry shampoo. Hairspray tends to make the hair oilier, but the dry shampoo soaks up the moisture and adds volume.”
But it’s not just her looks that have been wowing fans; Brit has proved to critics that she still has the stamina to perform back to back shows as she approaches her thirties, and Berardini admits her resolve helped inspire the transformation.
“I really wanted to play up to the idea of femme fatale,” he said. “When I think of femme fatale, I think of European actresses like Brigitte Bardot. It’s the epitome of a strong woman. I wanted to bring out that strength and sexiness for all the girls on tour.”
While the singer's venue changes on a daily basis - her next performance is in Denmark before she moves on to Sweden and Finland - one thing that remains exactly the same is her neutral make-up, which Berardini admits is designed to work with each of her raunchy costumes.
However, with so many cities on the tour itinerary, the stylist - who describes Britney as 'an inspiration' - insists that her hair changes in accordance in with wherever she is performing.
"We change her hair every show," he said. "I try to feel the vibe of the city we're in."
The 'Femme Fatale' tour hits British shores later this month for dates across London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield before moving on to Portugal and the United Arab Emirates.
